Privacy policy

The short version. kakoon keeps what you put into it so it is there when you come back. We do not sell it, show you ads, or track you. You can export or delete everything at any time.

What we collect

• Your account: an email address, or nothing at all if you continue as a guest.
• What you set up: your name, and optionally a gender label, an avatar, and emergency contacts.
• What you save: your check-ins, and anything you write in journal, gratitude, or reframe entries.
• Your settings: theme color and whether sounds are on.
• Feedback, if you choose to send us any.

We do not collect your location, your contacts list, advertising identifiers, or any usage analytics.

How we use it

Only to run the app for you: to save your entries and show your history, to keep you signed in and help you recover your account, and to sync your data so it is still there on a new phone. Emergency contacts are stored only so you can tap to call them. We never contact them.

What we never do

We do not sell or rent your data, share it with advertisers or data brokers, use it to train AI models, or show you ads.

Who can see it

Your data is private to your account. We use trusted service providers to host and secure it on our behalf, and they are not allowed to use it for their own purposes. We may disclose data only if the law strictly requires it.

To be straight with you: kakoon is not end-to-end encrypted, so we are technically able to reach account data in order to run and support the app. We only do that when it is genuinely necessary, such as fixing a bug or answering a request from you.

Keeping it safe

Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and locked to your account. The app also keeps a copy on your device so it works offline.

Your choices

In the app, under Profile then Data and privacy, you can export everything as a file, or delete all of it. Deleting is permanent and removes your account with it. We keep your data until you delete it.

Children

kakoon is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child has given us their data, contact us and we will remove it.

Not medical advice

kakoon is a self-help tool, not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and not a crisis service. If you are in crisis, contact your local emergency services.

Changes

If we update this policy we will change the date above, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
